 Cave Tubbing with Reggie Question
« Thread Started on Aug 26, 2003, 3:19pm »

I have heard that cave tubbing with Reggie is a very popular excursion in Belize. Can anyone shed some light on what it is like?

My wife and I went tubbing with Reggie last March. Reggie sometimes has big groups and sometimes little groups. He does have a few assistants. When I went, he was going with a large group on a bus. My group consisted of myself, my wife and another couple from a different ship. The drive to Jag Paw is about an hour or so. Half of it on gravel roads. The most adventerous time of the trip was Tim driving on a 1 lane gravel road trying to pass school buses!!! Once we got to the launch point, we hooked up with Reggie and his group. The walk through the jungle is 45 or so minutes. You don't have to be in excellent shape but if you are really out of shape, you may reconsider. The water was nice and cool ( which was good because it was 100 outside and the jungle walk really doesn't give you too much shade. Since 500 or so people walk the jungle trail most days, don't expect to see any wildlife. The caves themselves are awesome. They are very large and there are alot of good looking formations. The river was a little shallow and we had to walk every now and then ( march is still dry season). The actual time on the river was about 2 hours and we got back in plenty of time. As whether or not to recommend, it all depends on what you are expecting. If you want to spend the day relaxing and floating down a river, Reggie is your man. If you were really looking for an ecotour, this isn't it. Hope this helps.
ps if you go, bring some bottled water and wear old tennis shoes.
